Poodle Facts

Fact 1.

There are three sizes of Poodles:

toy, miniature and standards.

They aren't different breeds, just different sizes

of the same dog.

All sizes measured at the shoulder.

Toy Poodles stand up to 28cm (11 inches).

Miniature Poodles stand between 28cm to 38cm

(11 inches to 15 inches).

Standard Poodles stand from 38cm (15 inches)

usually around 56cm (22inches).

 

Fact 2.

Poodles love water and are one of the few breeds that have

webbed feet for swimming.

The originally were used by hunters to retrieved game.

Poodles have a soft mouth and didn't damage the game

when carrying it .

They can swim exceptionally well.

In fact the English name is derived from the German word

pudel,  or pudelin, which means splash in water.

In France they are called Caniche, a name derived from chein

canard, meaning duck dog.

 

Fact 3.

 Poodles have hair not fur. Poodles have hair that does not

shed like other breeds of dog.

Their hair is non allergenic and does not have a doggy smell

even when wet.

Poodles are very good for people with allergies.

Many allergic people are able to keep poodles with no reaction. 

Poodle hair can be styled in many different ways
 
but must be trimmed.
 
If left and not trimmed the hair will become very knotty and
 
matted.
 

They learn fast, highly trainable. Poodles learn good and bad habits, and they remember everything.

Poodles are often used in the circus and perform many tricks.

 

Fact 4.

An outstanding trait of a Poodle is it's intelligence.

Poodles are often said to have human-like intelligence,

an amazing cleverness that astounds it's owners.

They learn fast, are highly trainable.

Poodles learn good and bad habits, and they remember

everything.
